Logging Time
The standard workflow for entering your durations.
Logging Time in Time Assign
Capturing your work accurately is the core of Time Assign. Whether you're working from your home office on PLC logic or you're out in the field terminating panels, this guide will walk you through the standard workflow for navigating your submission period and entering time against specific project line items.
Navigating the Submission Period
Your dashboard defaults to the current submission period (typically a week or a two-week sprint). You can view your total logged hours against your required hours at a glance.
- Select the Current Period: Ensure you are viewing the correct dates on your timesheet.
- Review Existing Entries: Quickly see days where you might be short on hours.
- Add a New Entry: Click the Add Time button on the designated day.
Selecting a Project and Line Item
Time Assign is designed around project profitability. Therefore, every hour must be tied to a specific project and, more importantly, a specific line item.
- Choose the Project: Select the active project you are working on from the dropdown menu.
- Select the Line Item: This is where precision matters. Choose the exact task you are working on, such as:
- Panel Assembly
- HMI Development
- Site Commissioning
- Electrical Design
Remote Software Tasks vs. Physical On-Site Commissioning
When logging your time, it's crucial to differentiate between where and how the work is happening. Time Assign treats these environments differently to track project costs accurately.
Remote Software Tasks
When selecting line items like HMI Development or PLC Programming that are performed remotely or from the office, the system assumes a standard working environment. You simply enter the duration of your task and any relevant notes (e.g., "Drafting VFD control screens").
Physical On-Site Commissioning
When you select a line item like Site Commissioning or Panel Assembly that requires you to be physically present on the facility floor or at a client site, the workflow changes.
- Travel Implications: On-site work often triggers prompts for travel time and mileage.
- Premium Conditions: You may be eligible for premium rates (such as overtime, double-time, or hazard pay) based on the on-site conditions which are not typically applicable to remote office work.
By selecting the correct line item, you ensure that Time Assign surfaces the right prompts for your specific environment.
